The design is weird and sometimes even obtuse, but the developers' vision is apparent, and it's fun to see their largely-unfiltered decisions on display. The game is the perfect encapsulation of what I love about the mid-tier jank of ten years ago, a genre and class of game that's largely disappeared in recent years. However, I enjoyed the hell out of my time with this game anyway. The gunplay is weak, the movement feels weird, the combat is shallow, the level and enemy design is often frustrating, and it's buggy as all hell. Nearly every negative review of this game is completely accurate.
